I was a scared little girl, scarred for life. It was at a young age that I was abused and put to public shame. It wasn\'t the same to live with something so horrible etched in your mind. I was surprised I survived such a big ordeal. My parents were beaten to death and I had nobody to call my own.
Bravery is such a rare quality to find. Today most people lead selfish lives too busy within their own world to care about anyone else. In such a society our children are learning and growing. It\'s not the most ideal environment and honestly it\'s not the best thing for us to do. Bravery is now like a myth lost in the dark somewhere in the past.
Bravery stories are drying up and you find a lot of people succumbing to social pressures and worrying too much about what others would say. There are too many cases that often go unreported and we should really act to protect our society and social fabric. How often do you find a Spartan in today’s society? I’d say they are all dead and buried. In metros like Mumbai and Delhi it has become even more difficult to find compassion. The pace of life has dehumanised us, making us feel obligated to ignore anything that doesn’t contribute to our own purpose.
One of my favourite parts about Republic day celebrations is the bravery awards given to the brave hearts of the nation. These are young kids of 4 to 20 who selflessly put themselves in danger to protect the lives of people. It’s not so much a feat of strength as much as a feat of selflessness.
This is a little dedication to the brave hearts of India. In a land of over billion people these brave hearts stand out like beacons of inspiration. Godfrey Phillips Bravery Awards recognise these brave heroes and value their contribution to saving lives as well as setting an example to the entire nation.
Bravery is from within and knows to age. Every year the Godfrey Phillips Bravery Awards celebrate acts of selfless bravery by amazing humans across our nation. How often we let wrong doings pass by, ignoring it and carrying on with our lives. May be it’s time to stop, turn around and fight for what is right. Acts of courage need to be applauded and appreciated by society.
